Indoor airPLUS Pre-RESNET Conference Training @ Sheraton Atlanta Hotel
Feb 23 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

EPA created the Indoor airPLUS certification to help builders meet the growing consumer preference for homes with improved indoor air quality. Additional construction specifications are designed to help improve indoor air quality in new homes. This training gives raters the skills they need to understand and complete Indoor airPLUS ratings. The Indoor airPLUS Program is a partnership between EPA, builders, raters and other allies to improve indoor air quality in new homes. Homes with the Indoor airPLUS label include more than 30 additional home design and construction features to help protect homeowners from a host of health problems associated with poor indoor air quality, including eye irritation, allergies, headaches and respiratory problems such as asthma. All Indoor airPLUS qualified homes also meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by ENERGY STAR®, the nationally recognized symbol for energy efficiency and can be used in lieu of the Water Management Builder Checklist for ENERGY STAR 3.0.

RESNET Combustion Safety and Workscope Training for Raters @ Online
May 12 @ 12:00 pm – May 23 @ 1:00 pm

Course Description

All Raters must pass the Combustion Safety and Work scope written exam and simulation prior to December 31st 2014 to maintain their Rater Certification! Raters who are not BPI analyst certified will need an additional 2 hours of field training by the end of 2014 to comply with RESNET standards. This 7 hour online training is conveniently spaced over just 1 week.

All existing Raters must pass both the written and simulation CAZ exams by January 1, 2015, to maintain their Rater certification.

This RESNET Combustion Safety and Workscope Training fulfill this requirement.

  • Ambient Carbon Monoxide per RESNET standards
  • Measurement and protocols
  • Carbon Monoxide in unvented combustion appliances (ovens and ranges)
  • Combustible gas leakage testing

Heating and Cooling Systems

Vented Combustion Appliance Safety Testing

  • Interaction of combustion appliances and makeup air
  • Controlled and uncontrolled makeup air
  • Venting configurations and interaction with the building envelope
  • Depressurization, flame rollout, and backdraft
  • Configuring the home for Worst Case Depressurization testing
  • Measuring and documenting spillage
  • Carbon Monoxide in the venting flue
    • Variations in venting configuration and testing locations (venting & fuel types)
  • Predicting and adjusting for combustion safety problems
    • Correcting depressurization problems per RESNET protocols
    • Workscope recommendations based on CO and spillage testing results
  • Introduction to the RESCAZ training simulator
  • Differences between the BPI and RESNET testing protocols
All online sessions will be recorded for later viewing for our participants convenience.

The New York State Energy Conservation Construction Code (“Energy Code”) will be updated in accordance with the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code in 2016. This new Energy Code will be more complex and present new challenges for the building design construction and enforcement industry.

NYSERDA has partnered with the Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) to deliver live training over the next two years focused on the role of “energy specialists” and how they can support builders, designers and code enforcement officials and their value in performing a more significant role in Energy Code compliance and enforcement.

This session is an interactive, two-hour course designed for engineering and design professionals, code enforcement officials and members of the building community.

Course objectives include:

  • Inform on the upcoming Energy Code requirements that mandate or permit using energy specialists
  • Introduce the most common energy specialists, their skills and capabilities

Penn Energy Code Webinar: Energy Code Field Study Results – How Are We Doing? @ Online Webinar

To improve energy efficiency through training, education, and outreach it is important to know where we’re starting from. The Penn Energy Codes program recently completed field visits to a random sample of 171 residential construction sites across eastern Pennsylvania. The good news is that builders and code officials are doing a good job. But even so, there are plenty of opportunities for improvement. Learn about our recent study which included blower door and duct leakage testing along with observations of installed insulation, windows, and lighting. Also learn about new resources available to builders, code officials, and design professionals to help make your jobs easier while improving the comfort and durability of new homes and reducing homeowner energy bills.

Webinars are free to attend.

One Continuing Education Hour for Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry certifications will be available for code officials. Certificates of attendance will be emailed to attendees for a fee of $20.
