SUMMARY:Choosing the Right Commercial Compliance Path: Documentation and Tools
DESCRIPTION:Make sure to use the GoToWebinar link to obtain video access\, this is required and verified for CEU credit. VIDEO VIEWING IS REQUIRED! \nCourse Description:\nUnder the new Massachusetts Stretch Code\, 225 CMR 23\, new commercial buildings over 20\,000 square feet must use a performance path for compliance. This two-hour training focuses on the two most common performance-based compliance options\, Targeted Performance and Relative Performance. The Targeted Performance path requires projects to use energy modeling to demonstrate compliance with the heating and cooling Thermal Energy Demand Intensity (TEDI) targets. The Relative Performance path is based on ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G Performance Rating Method with Massachusetts amendments. This training will cover the reporting requirements and documentation that must be submitted to code officials for both compliance paths. It provides instructions for filling out the DOE/PNNL Compliance Form and Companion Tool for projects following the Relative Performance Path\, and instructions for filling out the TEDI Compliance Tool for projects following the Targeted Performance path. The training covers productivity tips\, efficient workflow\, common mistakes\, and best practices. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. List the documentation that must be submitted to code officials for projects following performance paths of compliance.\n2. Understand how to fill out the TEDI Compliance Tool for Targeted Performance Path projects.\n3. Understand how to fill out the Compliance Form and Companion Tool for Relative Performance Path projects.

SUMMARY:MA - C3.2 - Commercial Existing Buildings Part 2 Additions
DESCRIPTION:Make sure to use the GoToWebinar link to obtain video access\, this is required and verified for CEU credit. VIDEO VIEWING IS REQUIRED! \nCEU’s: 1 CSL (Topic – Code Review)\, 1 AIA\, 1 BPI\, 1 Building official \nPart 2:\nCommercial renovation projects dominate permit request applications across the Commonwealth and hold tremendous opportunity for energy savings via energy code compliance; yet confusion abounds as to how the 2023 Stretch Energy Code applies to renovating these existing buildings.\nThis presentation will address how to determine what constitutes an addition\, while also providing an overview of how the 2023 Stretch Energy Code applies specifically to commercial additions\, including the different requirements for both “large” and “small” additions. \nLearning Objectives:\n• Understand how to apply the Stretch Code to existing commercial buildings.\n• Determine the applicable compliance pathway for additions under the stretch code based on the size of a building.\n• Differentiate between the requirements for a change of use or occupancy\, and an alteration.\n• Summarize the key requirements of Chapter 5 Existing Buildings and how it impacts compliance with the Stretch Code.\n• Outline the requirements of Chapter 4 as they relate to alterations.

SUMMARY:MA - R6.0 The Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code for HERS Raters
DESCRIPTION:Make sure to use the GoToWebinar link to obtain video access\, this is required and verified for CEU credit. VIDEO VIEWING IS REQUIRED! \nCEU’s: 3 CSL (Code Review)\, 3 AIA\, 3 BPI\, 3 Code Official\, 3 RESNET PDHs \nDescription:\nThe Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code incorporates a blend of energy rating requirements and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) requirements\, which often leads to confusion. This course covers the requirements of the Energy Rating Index (ERI) path\, as amended by Massachusetts\, and IECC “mandatory” requirements. This course\, specifically designed for HERS Raters\, reviews details of the ERI path\, including rating standard options\, renewable energy bonuses\, and verification and documentation requirements. It will also discuss every IECC requirement that is mandatory under the ERI path\, including envelope\, mechanical system\, service hot water\, and whole-house mechanical ventilation. The Stretch Code requires a completed ENERGY STAR Thermal Enclosure System Checklist\, and this course will provide a review of the items required on this checklist in comparison to the IECC Air Barrier and Insulation Installation Criteria\, which are also required. The course will also describe duct leakage testing requirements\, including IECC and RESNET 301 testing exemptions and related modeling issues. Finally\, the course will briefly touch on the alternative ERI path (Passive House)\, EV-Ready requirements\, and solar-ready requirements. \n1. Have knowledge of the Stretch Code and how it is adopted locally to improve energy efficiency over the base code.\n2. Compare and contrast the compliance options available for new construction\, such as Prescriptive\, ERI\, and Passive House.\n3. Learn the requirements of Appendix RB: Solar Ready as well as the EV Ready and its requirements.\n4. Define the Specialized Code and explain how it results in zero- or near-zero energy buildings

SUMMARY:MA - R3.2 Whole-House Mechanical Ventilation: Options for Code Compliance
DESCRIPTION:Make sure to use the GoToWebinar link to obtain video access\, this is required and verified for CEU credit. VIDEO VIEWING IS REQUIRED! \nPlease be advised that GoToWebinar is only compatible with the browsers Firefox and Chrome. \nCEU’s: 1 CSL (Topic – Code Review)\, 1 AIA\, 1 BPI\, 1 Building official\, 1 RESNET PDH \nPart 2:\nMechanical ventilation is as important to indoor air quality as it is for energy conservation. The second part of the course will cover 2021 IECC\, IRC\, and Massachusetts amendments relating to whole-house mechanical ventilation system requirements. This will include when whole-house ventilation is required\, how to calculate the minimum design airflow rate\, and how to verify installed airflow rates. The presenter will also provide an overview of different ventilation systems – exhaust only\, supply-only and balanced ventilation (including ERVs/HRVs) – along with pros and cons of each type of system.

SUMMARY:MA - R3.1 Residential Air Barrier and Insulation Installation
DESCRIPTION:Make sure to use the GoToWebinar link to obtain video access\, this is required and verified for CEU credit. VIDEO VIEWING IS REQUIRED! \nCEU’s: 1 CSL (Topic – Energy)\, 1 AIA\, 1 BPI\, 1 Building official\, 1 RESNET PDH \nPart 1:\nThe installation of a continuous air and thermal barrier is perhaps the best and most cost-effective way to reduce energy waste and save money on utility bills; at the same time\, important details are often missed. This course will be framed around the 2021 IECC Air Barrier and Insulation Installation criteria found in Table 402.4.1.1 with photos and graphics to illustrate noncompliant and compliant installation of critical details like attic penetrations\, wall-to-ceiling transitions\, rim joists\, garage walls\, knee walls\, and tubs and showers on exterior walls. Installing and inspecting insulation to meet code and manufacturer requirements will also be discussed.
