SUMMARY:(R4.0) Electrifying the Energy Code - Residential
DESCRIPTION:Following an introduction to the benefits of electrification\, this course will review the requirements of IECC Appendix RA (Solar-Ready Provisions) along with related requirements including mandatory access and set back areas required by the Fire Code of New York State in Section 1204 Solar Photovoltaic Power Systems. The course will walk through several examples and ask attendees to determine whether the solar-ready provisions apply to a particular building\, given its type\, orientation\, roof design and other considerations. The course will also review examples of how to fit in the required solar ready zone considering obstructions and required setbacks. Example documentation will also be reviewed. Finally\, the course will cover the electric vehicle service equipment capable requirements of NYStretch and how adopting these provisions will help with the electrification of New York’s transportation system. \nLearning Objectives \n1- Describe the concept of beneficial electrification \n2- Identify and describe energy code provisions that promote beneficial electrification \n3- Understand relevant requirements from the Fire Code of New York State \n4- Describe the various systems involved in NYStretch and IECC Appendix RA

SUMMARY:(R1.1) Residential Energy Plan Reviews in 15 Minutes or Less (Pt 1)
DESCRIPTION:Countless previous research shows that code officials have very limited time to perform thorough plan reviews and that energy code provisions are often the first items to be jettisoned. This webinar is Part 1 of a two-part series\, and will not only help code officials\, but also those responsible for preparing construction documents. Participants will understand what’s required to do quick – yet thorough – document submittals and plan reviews. Sample checklists\, worksheets and other forms will be discussed and downloadable. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES: \n1. Describe a process for reviewing residential plans that includes assessing the highest impact energy code provisions \n2. Understand the inputs to provided forms and checklists such as duct and envelope testing verification and HVAC design forms and integrate them into your organization’s normal compliance documentation or enforcement processes \n3. Recreate a timeline that includes which construction details and verification forms needed to be provided/collected \n4. Describe how third-party energy professionals such as duct and envelope testers and HERS Raters fit into the inspection process

SUMMARY:(C2.1) Prioritizing ECCCNYS Enforcement for Commercial Buildings - Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Part 1: Envelope \nIn a robust study of commercial buildings\, 21% of the energy code provisions investigated were responsible for 81% of the potential savings. This created a framework for prioritizing energy code enforcement efforts based on the time it takes to verify a code provision versus the energy savings potential. With code enforcement officials being strapped for time and having other life-health safety priorities\, this course\, Part 1 of a two-part series\, covering high-impact commercial envelope requirements\, will help them prioritize efforts\, improve compliance\, and maximize the realization of savings inherent in the energy code. \nLearning Objectives: \n1. Identify energy code envelope requirements with the greatest energy impacts and prioritize energy code documentation \n2. Describe a process for creating and reviewing plans that includes documenting and assessing the highest impact energy code provisions related to envelope \n3. Understand how to integrate provided construction details verification forms and checklists into normal compliance documentation or enforcement processes \n4. Identify permit application specifications that enable a simplified plan review process as well as a process for providing or collecting verification forms

SUMMARY:(R7.1) Put a Lid On It Part 1: Unvented Attics
DESCRIPTION:R7.1 – Put a Lid On It Part 1 – Unvented Attics \nT02-07-3192 \nCOST: Free registration for New York Code Officials.* \nUse discount code: NYCEO \n*For use by New York Code Officials only. \nAll Others: $15.00 \nCONTINUING EDUCATION: \nArchitects: 1.5 AIA LU | HSW \nHome Performance Contractors: 1.5 BPI CEUs \nCode Enforcement Officials: 1.5 NYS DOS In-Service Hours \nICC credits: 1.5 CEUs \nTo receive credit\, participants must log into the GoToWebinar application within the first 15 minutes of the training and stay until the end of the webinar. VIDEO VIEWING IS REQUIRED! \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION Bringing attic and crawl spaces inside the thermal envelope is a great way to simultaneously improve energy efficiency and moisture management. One of the main ways unvented attics and crawl spaces reduce energy waste is by bringing ducts and air handlers inside (which is a requirement of NYStretch and the NYCECC). This can also be cost-effective for builders as they eliminate the requirement for duct testing. But there are risks associated with installing these assemblies improperly\, so it is important to meet all related requirements in the RCNYS. For unvented attics\, these include a minimum R-value of air impermeable insulation or above-roof deck insulation and proper installation and location of vapor retarders. For unvented crawl spaces\, builders must take care to install vapor barriers over exposed earth and provide a means of evacuating moisture. For both strategies\, the use of spray foam also brings in fire safety requirements from the RCNYS for thermal or ignition barriers. This course will provide a review of the benefits of unvented attics and crawl spaces\, related building science concepts\, and energy and residential code requirements.

SUMMARY:R1.1 - Residential Energy Plan Reviews in 15 Minutes or Less
DESCRIPTION:R1.1 – Residential Energy Plan Reviews in 15 Minutes or Less \nT02-07-2829 \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION Countless previous research shows that code officials have very limited time to perform thorough plan reviews and that energy code provisions are often the first items to be jettisoned.
