R-NY-3 Mechanical Systems Made Simple: HVAC Requirements in the 2025 ECCCNYS – PART 1

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will examine the requirements for mechanical systems in Section R403 of the 2025 Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State. Part 1 will focus on the changes between the 2020 ECCCNYS and 2025 ECCCNYS, as well as the updates to the requirements for duct leakage and ventilation system testing and unit sampling, new requirements for mechanical systems located outside the building thermal envelope and fireplaces.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Analyze differences between the 2020 and 2025 Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State (ECCCNYS) concerning mechanical systems requirements in Section R403.

2. Examine the updated protocols for duct leakage and ventilation.

3. Differentiate the new regulations for mechanical systems located outside the building thermal envelope and for fireplaces.

4. Determine balanced mechanical ventilation rates (CFM) for new houses.
