C-NY-2 Comfort and Quality: Commercial Building Thermal Envelopes Part 2
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will take a deep dive into the requirements for the building thermal envelope in Section C402 of the 2025 Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State. Part 2 will discuss new provisions in the 2025 ECCCNYS relating to thermal bridging mitigation in Section C402.7 and will discuss other practical approaches to mitigate thermal bridges across the building thermal envelope.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Define “thermal bridge” and explain the importance of mitigating thermal bridging to improve energy efficiency and reduce heat loss in buildings.
2. Examine how the code regulates thermal bridges in Section C402.7.
3. List the exceptions to Section C402.7.
4. Determine strategies for addressing thermal bridges in balconies and floor decks, cladding supports, structural beams and columns, vertical fenestration, and parapets.
