We are thrilled to announce that PSD has recently secured a two-year contract with the prestigious New Buildings Institute (NBI) to assist in developing the residential Net Zero Energy Code for Washington, D.C. This initiative marks a significant step forward in PSD’s commitment to advancing sustainability and energy efficiency.
What Is Net Zero Energy?
Net Zero Energy refers to buildings that produce as much energy as they consume over a year. This building concept is gaining traction, especially as cities and states strive to meet ambitious environmental goals. The residential Net Zero Energy Code will set standards for new homes in D.C., ensuring all designs minimize energy usage and utilize renewable energy sources.
Why This Matters
Implementing a Net Zero Energy Code will significantly impact the D.C. market by making residential buildings more energy-efficient by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. Moreover, energy-efficient construction lowers utility bills, enhancing residents’ overall quality of life. Investing in renewable energy solutions will also create opportunities for local jobs and stimulate economic growth within the community.
PSD’s Role in the Project
With our expertise in energy code and building practices, PSD is well-positioned to contribute to this important endeavor. We will collaborate closely with NBI to develop the energy code requirements and technical resources to help builders, architects, and homeowners understand and implement the Net Zero Energy Code effectively.
In addition, PSD will develop a corresponding energy code educational program. This program will provide industry professionals and stakeholders with the knowledge required to comply with the new codes while promoting energy conservation practices. This type of education is critical to ensure that everyone involved in the construction and renovation of homes is prepared to transition to Net Zero Energy practices.
Looking Ahead
We are excited to embark on this journey with NBI and are committed to delivering a comprehensive Net Zero Energy Code that meets the needs of Washington, D.C.’s residents. At PSD, we believe in the power of collaboration and innovation to drive change. This partnership with NBI is a testament to our mission of leading the way toward a more sustainable world. Stay tuned for updates as we work together to pave the path for a greener future in Washington, D.C.!
