This month’s Employee Spotlight is…

Steph Byler – Program Manager

1. Where did you grow up? Where do you reside now?

I grew up in McVeytown, PA, and now reside just 20 minutes away in Belleville, PA. The best part of where we live is that my in-laws live just a cornfield away!

2. What did you want to be when you grew up (when you were a child)?

I wanted to be a farmer. I lived on a dairy farm for the first 8 years of my life and loved having all the animals. I still pretend to be a farmer, as we have had goats, ducks, chickens, guineas, pigs, rabbits, and even a rat over the years at our house. I will own a donkey one day.

3. What guided you into the energy efficiency industry?

Shane Bulick. I was looking for a more flexible working environment, and he encouraged me to apply for a program coordinator position. I was looking for a more flexible working environment but found a new industry that interests and motivates me to help make positive changes for the world around me.

4. What does a day in your life at PSD look like?

Each day is a little different. For the most part, I’m just making sure that my programs are running smoothly.  It’s a lot of Excel, Salesforce, and Compass. Verifying that data is correct, software is working properly, and our clients are happy. Our clients and program participants are our first priority.

5. Our company has five core values (Integrity, Passion, Collaboration, Vision, and Making an Impact). Which of these values resonates most with you and the work you do at PSD?

Collaboration. I worked at Penn State in the Athletics department for almost 12 years before PSD, so I am all about teams. Whether it is a sport like football, where the players are working together, or a sport like wrestling, where you are individually doing the work, the team is there to support you.  I believe using everyone’s strengths and support together achieves the best results.

6. What is your favorite PSD-related memory?

Jane Anderson’s retirement trip. It included two days of good food, our team being together, and having fun while being productive.

7. What do you do when you aren’t at work? Do you have any interesting hobbies?

I keep busy with our four kids. Right now, all four are on different softball/t-ball teams, so it is a little crazy. I am also the president of our Little League Baseball/Softball Association, which I love.  In the off-season, I love working in my garden, camping, planning a good party, and making crafts in my Cricut corner.

8. Do you have any pets?

We have two dogs, a Beagle and a Golden Retriever. Additionally, we have a flock of chickens consisting of eight hens and one rooster, and we just hatched eight more chicks a few weeks ago.

9. What is your favorite holiday?

Christmas. Christmas with kids is nothing I could have ever imagined. I love the planning and bringing the magic! I do hate the wrapping presents part, though!

10. Favorite travel destination? Or dream travel destination?

My favorite place to go is to our camp. It is only a half mile down the road, but there is a creek, a fireplace, and no cell phone service. It feels like we are in a different world but close enough to go home when I forget something!

11. Favorite musician/genre?

I love it all, but I would say I’m a country girl at heart, with Chris Stapleton, Zach Bryan, and Morgan Wallen being at the top of the list right now.

12. What’s the top item on your bucket list? Have you checked anything cool or fun off?

I don’t think of it as a bucket list item because it’s not adventurous, but to finally pay off my student loans. I would love to take my kids to Disney soon and own a donkey (HAHA).

As far as checking things off, I have visited Spain, France, and Germany, all before I was 18.

13. What is an interesting thing about yourself that people may not know?

I want to write a book. Right now, I have a lot of notes on my phone and scribbles in some notebooks. Someday, I hope it’s an insightful yet funny book, full of faith to help other moms of multiples get through those long days and short years.

Thank you, Steph! We appreciate you taking the time to do this and are excited to have people get to know a little more about you!
