This month’s Employee Spotlight is…
Leah Canter – Program Manager
1. Where did you grow up? Where do you reside now?
I grew up in Ohio, about an hour northwest of Columbus, and currently live in De Mossville, Kentucky, about 18 minutes away from the Ark Encounter attraction.
2. What did you want to be when you grew up (when you were a child)?
A singer. I have been singing on stages since I was three years old.
3. What guided you into the energy efficiency industry?
My husband was a senior energy efficiency inspector for 11 years, first with KEMA and then DNV-GL after they bought KEMA. He helped me secure a job with DNV-GL in 2017, which started my energy efficiency career.
4. What does a day in your life at PSD look like?
Each day varies, but a significant portion of my time is dedicated to meetings. I allocate the remaining periods to the line work tasks currently under my responsibility, scheduling them around these meetings as needed.
5. Our company has five core values (Integrity, Passion, Collaboration, Vision, and Making an Impact). Which of these values resonates most with you and the work you do at PSD?
Integrity provides the foundation for Passion, Collaboration, Vision, and Making an Impact. With Integrity as a foundation, Passion can be expressed, client, co-worker, and other relationships can be built and maintained, allowing for Collaboration, Vision can be defined, and Impacts can be made that will last the test of time.
6. What do you do when you aren’t at work? Do you have any interesting hobbies?
- Completing college work.
- Taking care of my husband, two teenagers, and two dogs.
- Attending Church and Prayer Group.
- Visiting the Ark and Creation Museum.
- In my free time (LOL) I like to read, sing, dance, craft, hang out in our pool, or play video games.
7. Do you have any pets?
Yes, two dogs:
- An 80 lb. King Shepherd, which is a 20-year-old rare breed blending the Old English German Shepherd, Malamute, Shiloh Shepherd, and Great Pyrenees Breeds to produce dogs that are larger in size with calm temperaments and no hip problems. My dog is undersized for her breed. Females typically weigh 90-100 lbs.
- A 75 lb. Rough Collie (like Lassie but Blue Merle color instead of Tricolor).
8. What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas. We never celebrated Christmas growing up, so now as an adult I have a blast acting like a little kid about Christmas (only I am an adult and have money😊).
9. Favorite travel destination? Or dream travel destination?
My favorite place I have visited so far was the Chateau de Chenonceau (located in the Loire Valley in France). I visited there after my senior year of high school at the age of 17. The history of this castle was very interesting to me. It has only ever been owned by women. Since she enjoyed hunting, one of the women built a bridge across the river to make it easier to access the forest (I grew up hunting, so I can relate to this motivation). A later owner of the castle covered the bridge to make it a part of the castle.
My dream destination is Galilee in Israel. I would like to see where Jesus did most of his ministering while here on this earth.
10. Favorite musician/genre?
My favorite music genres are Bluegrass and Celtic. I am very eclectic in my musical taste and like most styles of music from Rap (if it has clean lyrics) to Country to Classical.
11. What’s the top item on your bucket list? Have you checked anything cool or fun off?
The top item on my bucket list is to complete my bachelor’s degree. I have not yet marked anything off since I am just starting to develop my bucket list.
12. What is an interesting thing about yourself that people may not know?
I’m the youngest of eight kids, four boys and four girls. Seven of us are still living.
Thank you, Leah! We appreciate you taking the time to do this and are excited to have people get to know a little more about you!
