Ithaca Company Gets National Recognition for Energy Efficiency Accomplishments

By July 18, 2005No Comments

At a press conference held today by the Secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Performance Systems Contracting (PSC) was recognized for its national leadership in developing and providing Home Performance with Energy Star services. The press conference was held to announce the formation of a new national Partnership for Home Energy Efficiency which will include national promotion of the Home Performance with Energy Star program. The new program will also include development of national protocols for energy efficiency for the remodeling industry, an effort that will be supported by Performance Systems Development (PSD), in a contract with HUD announced on Friday.

“This event demonstrates just how big an impact on our comfort, health and pocket books we can have by diagnosing and fixing our existing buildings” said Greg Thomas, President of the Performance Systems companies. “And it has a big impact on improving the environment.” Mr. Thomas was recognized at the national event along with two other contractors from across the US.

EPA has prepared and published on its website a case study of a home where Performance Systems Contracting used the ‘whole house’ performance tested approach to treat a 1930s era colonial home and achieved a 60% reduction in utility bills. In addition, many of the comfort issues commonly associated with having an older home were reduced or completely removed.

In what was an exciting week for Performance Systems, on Thursday July 8th, R&D magazine announced that the TREAT energy modeling software was awarded an R&D 100 award. This award is known as the Oscar’s for inventors and recognizes some of the most important technical innovations of the previous year. TREAT was developed jointly by Taitem Engineering and PSD, both of Ithaca. The awards will be announced in the September issue of the magazine. For more information on the award visit theĀ R&D Magazine web page.

These events demonstrate Performance Systems’ strong national leadership and local service delivery in improving the environment by improving the performance of our existing buildings. Performance Systems Contracting is a full service contracting company providing performance testing driven building solutions to homes and business in the Southern Tier. Performance Systems Development is a consulting firm providing software, training and consulting services to national and state agencies, utilities and private corporations across the United States.
