(M1.1) – Multifamily Air Sealing

T02-07-3088

This course will cover 2020 ECCCNYS requirements in the context of multifamily buildings. The first portion of the program will cover the energy code requirements for multifamily buildings. The second portion of the program will cover the energy code requirements as they apply to residential buildings in respect to air sealing. The third portion of the program will cover the energy code requirements for commercial buildings in respect to air sealing. The fourth and final portion of program will explore additional opportunities such as NYStretch and details to be considered

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the scope of the residential versus the commercial provisions of the ECCCNYS regarding multifamily buildings
  • Identify and eliminate the biggest sources of air leakage in multifamily buildings
  • Describe various, important air sealing design and construction details
  • Better understand the Energy Code’s requirements for air barrier construction and testing

(M1.2) – Multifamily Thermal Bridging

T02-07-3099

This course will cover 2020 ECCCNYS requirements in the context of multifamily buildings. The first portion of the program will be an introduction to thermal bridging. The second portion of the program will cover the energy code requirements and how to determine whether it is a residential or a commercial building.. The third portion of the program will cover the energy code requirements for residential buildings in respect to thermal bridging. The fourth portion of the program will cover the energy code requirements for commercial buildings in respect to thermal bridging. The last and final portion of the program will cover additional opportunities to reduce thermal bridging in regards to the NYStretch code provisions.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand what thermal bridging is, how it occurs and what effect it can have to a building and its occupants.​
  • Properly detail slab-on-grade construction to provide a thermal break and other details​
  • Describe the value of continuous insulation and important design/construction details​
  • Understand prescriptive requirements for continuous insulation and proper use of REScheck and COMcheck when pursuing tradeoff
